Proper Care and Treatment of Your Unit
Please read the following steps to insure warranty:
1. Place the door flat in a horizontal position, and work on one side at a time. Horizontal placement permits a balanced sanding surface and allows the leveling qualities of the varathane to set up properly.
2. Light sanding with 150 grit sandpaper is required prior to finishing, then graduate to a finer 220 grit sandpaper. Wipe off excess dust with a tack cloth and make sure the surface is dry.
3. Use an exterior spar varnish (varathane). For the first coat a sanding sealer must be applied to maintain uniform absorption. Pour one cup of varathane and one cup of mineral spirits into a container and mix thoroughly. Brush mixture on the door and edges then wait till dry and repeat process on the remaining side.
4. Apply two coats of pure varathane to the door. Between coats a 220 grit sandpaper or higher can be used to remove dust or bumps in the finish. This will also help the second coat adhere to the first layer. All wood must be sealed to resist moisture and sunlight.

Important Warranty Information
All units, either direct shipped or received by a store, must be inspected upon receipt. Damage claims are void after the product has been received as “Free of Damages”.
Distinctive Doors by All American Millwork, LLC are covered by a Limited 1-year warranty against manufacture defect, glass seal failure and warped construction.
The following circumstances are not considered the responsibility of All American Millworks LLC, and will void warranty:
- Damage resulting from failure to comply with installation, finishing and maintenance instructions provided by All American Millwork, LLC.
- Damage caused by any repairs performed
- Failure to properly finish door, sidelite, transom and jamb surfaces. Door must be finished on all 6 sides.
- Repairs or modifications performed by persons other than installer or representative of All American Millwork, LLC.
- Damage, misuse/abuse or any causes beyond control of All American Millwork, LLC.
- Installation of a storm door without proper and adequate venting system.
- Installing door in prolonged sunlight. No overhang protection. Proper overhang protection is described on right.
- Any modifications to the product.
Adequate protection is determined by your climate and exposure. The amount of protection your door needs can be determined from the chart at the right. The height (H) can be found by measuring from the bottom of door to where overhang joins the wall. The distance of the projection is (P).
Example: Your home is in a coastal area with a southern facing door exposure; the required projection (P) must be equal to the height (H) of the overhang.

Warpage shall not be considered a defect unless it exceeds ¼” plane of a door up to 36” wide and up to 96” tall. Single doors greater than 36” x 96” are not covered by warranty. The ¼” shall be determined by placing a straightedge on the suspected concave face of the door and measuring the maximum distance between the bottom of the straightedge and the door, accounting for panels and glazing recesses.
Action on any claim of warpage warranty may be deferred by All American Millwork, LLC for a period not to exceed 12 months, since it is not uncommon for a temporary warp to occur as the door adjusts to local humidity and temperature conditions.
In the unlikely event of an All American Millwork, LLC door developing a defect not defined previously, All American Millwork, LLC will, at its option, repair the product or provide a replacement at no cost to the Original Purchaser.
Natural variations in color and/or texture of any wood grain finish shall not be considered a defect.
The process used in creating some decorative glass can cause natural, bubble-like areas to form in the glass. These are inherent characteristics of the manufacturing process and shall not be considered defects.
Note: All American Millwork, LLC is not responsible for the finishing of an unfinished unit or the refinishing of any unit. All American Millwork, LLC is not responsible for installation or re-installation of any door.
The manufacturers’ sole responsibility is as stated herein and it shall not be for consequential, indirect or incidental damages, or for any amount excess of the price paid for the doors involved.
Except as set forth above, All American Millwork, LLC makes no other warranty, expressed or implied, with respect to the product.
All American Millwork, LLC is not responsible for installation labor.
For warranty purposes, all products must be installed by a licensed contractor.
Handling, Finishing, and Install Instructions
Doors shall always be stored on edge, supported vertically (not leaning).
Doors shall not be exposed to excessive heat, dryness, humidity or direct sunlight prior to finishing.
Handle doors with clean gloves and do not drag them across each other.
The structural strength of the door must not be impaired in the fitting of the door, the application of hardware or cutting and altering the door for lights, louvers, panels or any other special details.
All doors 7'0” and under must have 3 hinges. All doors over 7'0” must have 4 hinges (All Dade County Approved Units must have 4 hinges). Hinges should be set flush with edge surface. Be sure that hinges are set in a straight line to prevent distortion. Allow approx. 3/16" clearance for swelling of the door or jamb during future damp weather.
Doors should not be installed where there is no overhang, exposure to direct rain and/or southern/western exposure which allows excessive sunlight.
immediately after fitting (cutting for closures, weatherstripping and/or threshold), and before hanging, all Surfaces of the door must be sealed including the top, bottom, side edges and the hardware cutouts. If the door is not to be hung immediately, all surfaces must be sealed within 24 hours of reaching the job site. (Refer to Proper Care and Treatment of Door Page).
Use only oil-based stains or primers. If water-based paint is used, it must be applied over an oil-based primer. No lacquer or water-based sealers are acceptable on exterior doors. Stained doors must have at least 3 coats of 95% Polyurethane or 95% Varathane finish as a final finish. Penetrating oil, by itself, is not a finish coat unless it is then coated with a urethane product.
In order not to induce warpage or excessive deterioration of your door, avoid using dark stains or paints on exterior door surfaces.
